PLL Baseball Divisions



Tee Ball (A)

The Tee Ball division is for players 4-5 years old (as of August 31, 2024) who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Ball, batting tees will be used for the first 6 weeks of the season with coach pitch being introduced after that. Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. Tee Ball is an instructional division with an emphasis on having fun with their friends, skill development and teamwork.  

  • The first 3 weeks of the season will be practice only.
  • Outs will not be counted.
  • All players will bat once each inning.
  • All players will take the field each inning.
  • Players will be placed in real fielding positions with extra players filling in the gaps.

Coach Pitch (AA)

The Coach Pitch division is for players 5-6 years old (as of August 31, 2024) who are moving toward hitting from a pitched ball as well as still learning the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Coach Pitch baseball, players spend a portion of their season hitting a ball off a batting tee as well as learning to hit pitched balls from coaches. Coach Pitch baseball is an instructional division with an emphasis on having fun with their friends, skill development and teamwork. 

  • The first 4 weeks of the season will be practice only with games beginning on the 5th week.
  • Outs will not be counted until the last two weeks, then outs are counted and the bases are cleared after 3 outs but the team keeps batting.
  • Players may only advance 1 base per hit until the last two weeks in which two bases may be taken. 
  • All players will bat once each inning. 
  • All players will take the field each inning. Players will be placed in real fielding positions with extra players filling in the gaps.
  • The last two weeks the coaches will introduce machine pitching to hitters.

Machine Pitch (AAA)

The Machine Pitch division is for players 6-8 years old (as of August 31, 2024) who are hitting from a machine pitched ball as well as continuing to build on the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching and development. Machine Pitch baseball is an instructional division with an emphasis on having fun with their friends, skill development and teamwork. 

  • Each team will consist of 11 to 12 players.
  • Player-pitch games may be worked in after several weeks to help with development.
  • Players will receive a minimum of 3 innings playing time.
  • A bat through lineup will be used.
  • Hard balls will be used at this level.

Minors

The Minors division is for ages 9 to 11 (as of August 31, 2024) who are moving from machine pitch baseball to pitching and batting against other players. Minors is the entry-level competitive baseball division. As a competitive division, the goals are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division and provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development.

  • Each team will consist of 11 to 12 players.
  • New teams are drafted each year. All players returning to this league must try out and re-enter the draft.
  • Standings are kept and playoffs will follow the regular season.
  • Players will receive a minimum of 3 innings playing time.
  • Pitch count limits are enforced.
  • A bat through lineup will be used.


Majors

Majors is for players ages 11 to 12 years old (as of August 31, 2024) who are refining all the skills they have been building up in the Minor divisions in this next stage of competitive baseball. Majors is also known as the Little League Baseball Division. As a competitive Division, the primary goals of Majors are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development and stage the players for much higher levels of play.

  • Play is very competitive and 65 mph pitches are not uncommon.
  • Standings are kept and playoffs will follow the regular season.
  • Each team will consist of 11/12 players.
  • Once drafted, the player will remain with the team they were drafted by.
  • Each team will play a regular season schedule of 12 to 16 games.
  • Players will receive a minimum of 3 innings playing time and a bat through lineup will be used.
